What is the Futurity?

The Great Dane Club of America’s annual Futurity is often compared to the Breeder’s Cup for Great Danes. This prestigious event isn’t a competition between dog owners, but between breeders who are dedicated to improving the breed.

The Futurity represents years of hard work and a commitment to breeding the perfect Great Dane. But how does the process work? Let’s break it down”

 1) Nomination Before Birth:

Breeders nominate a pregnant bitch before the puppies are born. This early nomination is a statement of belief in the quality of the upcoming litter. It shows that breeders have carefully selected the stud dog, reviewed pedigrees, and are confident the litter will produce future champions.

2) Puppy Nominations:

Once the puppies are born, breeders nominate them by age three months. At this stage, breeders can nominate all or just a few puppies, reinforcing their confidence in the litter’s potential.

3) Final Entry:

In the months leading up to the competition, final entries are submitted for each nominated puppy. It is the breeder’s responsibility to complete the entry process before the show in October.
